What is iguana negra?

Iguana negra, also known as the black spiny-tailed iguana, is a species of lizard native to Central America and northern South America. They are known for their distinctive black coloring and spiny tail, which gives them their name.

These iguanas typically inhabit rocky areas and dense forests, where they can blend in with their surroundings and avoid predators. They are primarily herbivorous, feeding on leaves, flowers, and fruits, but may also consume insects and small vertebrates.

Iguana negra is a relatively large species, with adults reaching lengths of up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) from head to tail. They are known for their agility and speed, making them excellent climbers and runners.

While they are not currently considered endangered, habitat loss and hunting for their meat and skin have put pressure on their populations in some areas. Conservation efforts are being made to protect these unique reptiles and their habitats.
